New Delhi: The Centre has approved the National Quantum Mission to accelerate Quantum Technology-led economic growth and leverage India into a leading nation in the sector. A decision in this regard was taken at a Union Cabinet meeting in New Delhi yesterday, April 19.
Addressing media after the meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said that the Quantum Mission has been approved at a total cost of over six thousand crore rupees for a period from 2023-24 to 2030-31.
Elaborating more on the National Quantum Mission, Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the mission will give India a quantum jump in the world
arena. He added that there are at present six countries including the USA, Canada, and France which are having quantum technology.
The Mission would greatly benefit communication, health, financial and energy sectors as well as drug design, and space applications. It will provide a huge boost to national priorities like Digital India, Make in India, Skill India and Stand-up India, Start-up India, Self-reliant India, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The aim of the mission is to seed, nurture and scale up scientific and Industrial Research and Development and create a vibrant and innovative ecosystem in Quantum Technology.
