Cabinet clears proposal raise minimum age for marriage of women from 18 to 21

Union Cabinet on Wednesday, cleared the proposal to raise the minimum age of marriage for women from 18 to 21, a year after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that it was under review.

Prime Minister Modi

had earlier, during his last year’s Independence Day speech made a mention of the proposal.

At present, the legal age of marriage for girls is 18.
