New Delhi: As part of the national e-governance plan of the government, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved Phase-III of eCourts project, with financial outlay of Rs 7,210 crore. It also approved the budgetary allocation of Rs 1,650 crore for the distribution of 75 lakh free-cooking gas or LPG connections over three years ending March 2026.

Announcing the decision after the cabinet meeting, union minister for information and broadcasting Anurag Thakur said that the goal is to establish online and paperless courts and make the judicial system more transparent. "The e-filing and e-payment systems will be made universal and cloud storage will be made to store the data. In all court complexes, 4,400 e-service centres would be established," Thakur said.

An official statement said that the eCourts mission mode project is a move towards improving access to justice using technology.  Phase II of the eCourts



Project concluded this year. The Phase-III aims at bringing ease of justice by moving towards digital, online and paperless courts through digitisation of the entire court records including legacy records.

The Centre also approved the budgetary allocation of Rs 1,650 crore for the distribution of 75 lakh free-cooking gas or LPG connections over three years ending March 2026. Thakur said that as per the existing modalities of Ujjawala 2.0, the first refill and stove will be provided free of cost to Ujjwala beneficiaries

Meanwhile, the government also approved an foreign direct investment (FDI) of up to Rs 9,589 crore in Suven Pharmaceuticals by Cyprus-based Berhyanda to fund capacity expansion of the Indian pharma company in order to generate new jobs in the sector. "The proposal was evaluated by Sebi, RBI, CCI and other relevant agencies," a release said.
