Caste census to begin on day of govt formation, says Rahul

Raipur: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that his party, if retained power in Chhattisgarh in the upcoming assembly elections, would begin caste census on the very day of formation of the government.

Addressing a public meeting in Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh, he said that the caste census is needed to ensure inclusive development of the people in the country.

He said that the state Congress government has fulfilled all the promises made by the party before the 2018 assembly elections and pledged that the party would carry out every single guarantee given to the people of the state if retained power in the state in the ensuing assembly polls.

He reiterated his party’s pledge to procure paddy from the farmers of Chhattisgarh at an enhanced rate of Rs 3,200



per quintal.

Mr Gandhi said that Congress always worked for the welfare of the tribals.

He called BJP as anti-tribal while citing the incident in which a man was captured in a video urinating on the face of a tribal in Madhya Pradesh.

Chhattisgarh deputy chief minister T S Singh Deo is seeking re-election in the Ambikapur assembly constituency.

The scion of the Surguja royal family is pitted against Rajesh Agrawal of BJP in the seat.

The first phase of assembly elections in Chhattisgarh in which 20 seats went to polls was held on Tuesday.

The second and final phase of assembly elections in the state is scheduled to be held on November 17.
