The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has compulsorily retired 15 senior officers in the rank of Principal Commissioner of Income-tax, Commissioner of Income-tax, Joint Commissioner of Income-tax and others.
Sources said, they have given compulsory retirement on the charges of corruption and CBI traps.
Earlier this year, the CBDT had compulsorily retired 49 high ranking tax officers including 12 officers from CBDT under Fundamental Rule
56(J).
The action is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's this year's Independence Day speech.
Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort, the Prime Minister had said that some black sheep in the tax administration may have misused their powers and harassed taxpayers, either by targeting honest assesses or by taking excessive action for minor or procedural violations.
