Central Bureau of
Investigation, CBI yesterday arrested Home Ministry official Anand Joshi in
connection with a case of alleged issuance of Foreign Contribution Regulation
Act, FCRA notices arbitrarily to NGOs for financial gains. Joshi, who is posted
as under secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, was missing for the past
five days after the CBI raided his house last week. He was traced to a
relative's home in west Delhi by the CBI and was arrested subsequently. He was
summoned by the CBI to appear for questioning after the agency registered case
against him under Section 120-B of the
Indian Penal Code and prevention of
corruption act.
After conducting raids at four locations, including his residence and office, the agency had recovered cash worth 7.5 lakh rupees. Certain incriminating documents, including files pertaining to Home Ministry and Information and Broadcasting Ministry were also recovered. Joshi is also accused of being in illegal possession of a file relating to actions under the FCRA.
