CBI Director Alok Verma on Thursday met Central Vigilance Commissioner(CVC) KV Chowdary and denied the corruption charges levelled against him by his deputy and special director Rakesh Asthana, officials said.

The CBI Director visited the CVC office around 1 pm and also met the Vigilance Commissioner Sharad Kumar along with the CVC, officials added.

According to officials, Rakesh Asthana also met the CVC and vigilance commissioner.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had on October 26 directed the Central Vigilance Commission to complete their probe into the allegations levelled by Asthana against Alok Verma within two weeks.

The Vigilance Commission recently questioned some CBI officials probing crucial cases which were mentioned in Asthana’s corruption

charge against the probe agency’s chief Alok Verma, officials said.

CBI personnel from the rank of inspector up to superintendent of police were called before a senior CVC official to have their statements recorded.

These officials included those who had handled high-profile cases like the Moin Qureshi bribery case, the IRCTC scam, involving former railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, the cattle smuggling case in which a senior BSF officer was caught with wands of cash in Kerala.

The feud between Verma and Asthana escalated last month leading after the CBI registered an FIR against the latter and others including Deputy Superintendent of Police Devender Kumar.

Verma and Asthana were divested of their responsibilities and are currently on administrative leave.
