The Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI has conducted searches under operation Kanak-2 at around 50 locations in Punjab at the premises of the Food Corporation of India, FCI officials and private rice millers in an ongoing investigation of a case.
The searches were conducted at places including Mansa, Hoshiarpur, Roopnagar, Patiala, Mohali, Moga, Firozpur, Ludhiana, Sangrur and Chandigarh.
CBI in a statement said that incriminating documents
and digital devices have so far been recovered during searches. The operation was launched to break the nexus of channelised corruption in FCI involving officials of FCI, private Rice Millers and Grain Merchants.
The Agency added that during further investigation, it was allegedly revealed that FCI officials and others were part of an organised syndicate and the recipients of huge bribe amounts collected during the process of procurement in FCI.
