In Chennai, the CBI registered a case against a senior Central Excise and Customs official and four associates on charges of bribery in matters of transfer and postings in the department.

The Principal Chief Commissioner in the department, Ms. Janaki Arunkumar is alleged to have entered into a criminal conspiracy with her subordiate officials this month



and demanded money from some of the other staff for favourable postings.

Following the complaints, the CBI made searches at seven locations in Chennai last evening including at the official and residential premises of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Customs and Excise and four Superintendents who are alleged to have colluded with her in the crime.
