Chief Justice of India, Justice Ranjan Gogoi yesterday said Central Bureau of Investigation should be given statutory status equal to Comptroller and Auditor General.
Delivering the D.P. Kohli Memorial lecture in New Delhi, Justice Gogoi said, CBI is the premier federal investigating agency in the country and it has discharged its duty with honour and distinction
during its more than five decades of existence. He said, public perception of the agency must be of the highest degree given the intense scrutiny that working of the CBI is being subjected to. He added that any gap between public perception and the quality of the institutional performance would adversely impact the governance of the nation.
