A CBI team was attacked in Uttar Pradesh's Noida when it tried to arrest an accused in a bribery case. Few CBI officials have been injured during the attack.
A six member team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had gone to Sonepura village in Greater Noida to nab Sunil Dutt. Dutt, an Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) at CBI, was booked by his own agency in a bribery case.
The accused CBI officer was hiding in a farmhouse at Greater Noida and when the team of CBI reached there to apprehend Dutt, his family members attacked them. The family members of Dutt attacked the CBI officials to help the accused flee from the spot.
The Greater Noida police has lodged a case in related to the incident. A team of CBI had gone to residence of one of the suspects in their case. The family members attacked the CBI team. We have detained few people in this case and action is being taken, said Vineet Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police, Greater Noida.
The central investigating agency is probing a bribery case in a Greater Noida Expressway land case of over Rs 126 crore where Dutt, a CBI officer, is an
accused.
Dutt was booked by his own agency CBI on February 2 but was absconding since then. Sunil Dutt in conspiracy with other government officials allegedly took illegal gratification and is absconding accused. After receiving source based information that Dutt is hiding in a farmhouse, our team reached their but was attacked by his family members and Dutt successfully fled from the spot, said a CBI officer.
Another CBI officer VS Rathore and Ranveer Singh, a tehseeldar, was booked by CBI in related to the bribery case. Rathore and Singh were arrested by the agency but Dutt was absconding.
The CBI has filed an FIR against two of its own officers for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh to provide relief to three accused in the Rs 126-crore land scam at Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).
The Rs 126-crore land scam is being probed by the UP police since 2013, when then YEIDA CEO PC Gupta had approved the purchase of 58 hectares in Mathura though the land had no utility.
It has been alleged that Ranveer Singh, then tehsildar in UP administration, paid Rs 10 lakh to the two CBI officers - Dutt and Rathore.
