Mumbai: Kicking off BJP’s campaign in Maharashtra for the Assembly elections, party president Amit Shah blamed India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for the creation of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
“While Sardar Patel ensured that Hyderabad and Junagadh were integrated with India, Nehru was in charge of Kashmir. Had Nehru not announced an untimely ceasefire in 1947 when the Indian Army was fighting Pakistani infiltrators in Jammu and Kashmir, there would have been no PoK today,” he said at an election
rally in Mumbai today.
He indicated next month’s Assembly poll would be fought on abrogation of Article 370. “This is the first election after the decision (to withdraw) Article 370. Now is the time to show parties opposed to the withdrawal their place. People should decide whether to choose a party which serves the nation or just one family,” Shah said.
Targetting Congress and the NCP, Shah said, “Rahul Gandhi and Sharad Pawar should tell the people if they support or oppose abrogation of Article 370.”
