An inter Ministerial Central team headed by V Shashanka Sekhar, Joint Secretary, Home Ministry will visit Assam from today to 28th July to assess the recent flood situation and erosion affected areas of the state. 

State Chief Secretary V K Pepersenia yesterday said that the team will review the situation at 2 noon in Guwahati.The visit comes within a week of Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal's meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. 

The Central team comprises of officials from different Ministries including Home Affairs, Water Resources will make on the spot assessment of the situation.The team



will inspect flood and erosion affected areas of Biswanath, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Barpeta, Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi and also meet officials of the respective district administration.

Nearly 19 lakh people affected in recent wave of flood at 23 districts. Over 70 persons died due to flood related incident. Flood water also submerged huge crop areas and damaged infrastructures.
