The High Level Technical Team of officials from Water Resources Ministry is visiting Cauvery basin in Karnataka today. The team headed by Central Water Commission Chairman G S Jha is scheduled to hold discussion with the state officials and proceed to basin regions in Mandya district. It also has plans to visit Krishna Raja Sagara dam in the evening.
Tomorrow, the team is visiting other dams of river Cauvery and other basin areas. The expert team constituted under direction from the Supreme Court will assess
the ground realities in basin regions and submit a report to the apex court on 17th this month.
The Water Resources minister in Karnataka, M B Patil has said that Government will submit a memorandum to the Central team and will be briefed about poor rainfall, water level position in dams, drought situation and crop loss position in the state. He said out of 18 lakh Acres of agriculture land in the basin region, only 2 lakh acres has standing crop which is also withering due to monsoon failure.
