The Ministry of Environment on Friday has put out a notice allowing Jallikattu, the traditional bull fighting practise in Tamil Nadu.
Jallikattu is 'celebrated' around Pongal and the Environment Minister was under pressure from the state unit of the BJP to allow the festival to be organised with an eye on
the Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
Environmental activists have been opposing the government's move because of the injury it causes to the Bulls that participate in the bull fights.
Members of the Animal Welfare Board had written to Javdekar opposing the move but the government has gone ahead regardless.
Which political party will win the Delhi Assembly polls to be held on Feb 5?
