Union Home Ministry has issued the final gazette notification for delimitation of wards for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). A total of 250 wards have been chalked out for the MCD. 42 wards have been reserved for Scheduled Castes.
Earlier, there were 272 wards before the reunification of the municipal corporations. North Delhi Municipal Corporation and South Delhi Municipal had 104 wards each, while East Delhi Municipal Corporation had 64 wards.
In July, Ministry of Home Affairs had constituted delimitation
Committee headed by State Election Commissioner, Delhi Vijay Dev for carrying out the Delimitation of wards. The Delimitation Committee completed its exercise and submitted its report to the Central Government on 25th of last month. The Draft Delimitation Order was put on the website of the State Election Commission for information to General Public and all concerned for inviting suggestions and objections. The final order of delimitation has been issued after amendment on the suggestions and objection of the common people and political parties.
