Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy has asked the Centre to declare the Cyclone Ockhi a ‘National Disaster.’ In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday, he has appreciated the services rendered by the Defence Forces in rescuing stranded fishermen mid sea. He has requested them to continue search operations. 

He has recalled the unprecedented damages to plantation and horticulture crops, electricity network, roads and drinking water



supply. 

For the restoration of infrastructure that were battered by the cyclone, he has sought necessary financial assistance. He has said, a detailed memorandum will be submitted to the Centre separately. 

The Chief Minister has thanked the States of Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat who have provided shelter and assistance to a large number of Tamil Nadu fishermen and fishing boats.
