The Char Dham yatra began yesterday with the opening of portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples in Uttarakhand on the occasion of Akshay Tritiya. Portals of Kedarnath Dham will open on May 6, while that of Badrinath Dham on May 8.
The gates of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples were opened in the presence of thousands of devotees, and administrative and temple committee officials yesterday. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami along with his wife also visited Gangotri to offer prayers and witness the ceremonious opening of the
temple gates.
A record number of pilgrims are likely to visit Char Dham this year as it is for the first time since 2019 that the yatra has begun without the COVID-induced restrictions in force.
Uttarakhand government has decided to impose a ban on the movement of vehicles on mountain routes in the state from 10 am to 4 pm in view of the Chardham Yatra. The decision has been taken for the convenience and safe journey of the pilgrims on Char dham Yatra.
