Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Upendra Dwivedi, has embarked on a four-day visit to Nepal today. The visit aims to strengthen military cooperation between the two militaries and explore new avenues of collaboration. During his visit, General Dwivedi is set to be conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepal Army by Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel.

On the first day of his visit, General Dwivedi will hold informal talks with his Nepalese counterpart, General Ashok Raj Sigdel. He will also interact with the Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava.

On the following day, General Dwivedi will be given a Guard of Honour at Nepal’s Army headquarters, followed by an interaction with General Sigdel. He will also be briefed by the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Nepal’s Army on issues of common interest. Thereafter, he will



attend the investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan, Shital Niwas.

General Dwivedi will also call on the President of Nepal and engage in talks to further boost the defence partnership between India and Nepal. He will meet with the Prime Minister of Nepal, K P Sharma Oli, and the Defence Minister of Nepal, Manbir Rai, to engage in talks on issues of mutual interest.

On the 23rd of November, General Dwivedi will attend an ex-servicemen rally in Pokhara, where he will felicitate Veer Naris and gallantry awardees. During the rally, he will also interact with Indian Army veterans. The COAS will visit the Western Division headquarters of the Nepali Army and will be briefed in the presence of the General Officer Commanding, Western Division, Nepali Army. In the evening he will host a banquet for dignitaries in Kathmandu.
