Christmas is being celebrated today across the globe with fervour and gaiety. The day is observed to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. On the occasion people decorate their houses by putting a Christmas tree, illuminated paper star, Holly wreaths and exchange gifts. Midnight services were held in churches where people offer prayers and sing carols to welcome the Saviour.

Pilgrims flocked to Bethlehem, the birth place of Lord Christ for celebrations. At a midnight Mass at the Church of the Nativity, Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa addressed worshippers and dignitaries that included Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Pope Francis, has called on people in developed countries to live a simpler and less materialistic life.

Messages of celebrations are coming in from different parts of the country also.Markets and buildings across Goa have been decorated and lit



up to give a festive look. In Nagaland, community feasts after the worship service is being hosted in almost all the churches. Various groups and individuals are also visiting hospitals, orphanages and streets distributing food and clothings as a mark of Christmas love and sharing.

President  Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu  have greeted the people on Christmas. Mr Kovind said, Jesus Christ symbolised peace, harmony and hope. Mr Naidu said, Christmas is a joyous occasion that reminds people of the eternal values of compassion and forgiveness, love and empathy. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has wished everyone a merry Christmas. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, we remember the noble teachings of Jesus Christ and recall his efforts towards creating a compassionate and equal society.
