Actor Irrfan Khan’s remarks on fasting during Ramzan and “qurbani” (sacrifice) of animals have invited criticism from Muslim clerics on Friday.
The clerics said Khan's remarks showed he had little knowledge about Islam and expressed confidence that it would not have any impact on the community.
During the promotion of his upcoming film Madaari in Jaipur recently, the actor had raised questions over the sacrifice of
animals during Bakrid.
“...he should not have passed such comments on an issue that is attached to the sentiments of people,” said Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangimahali, member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board.
Firangimahali said “qurbani” had a deeper meaning. “The meat of the animal is distributed among the poor. It is not that all the meat is consumed by the person who sacrifices the animal,” he said.
