President Droupadi Murmu yesterday said climate change has raised concerns about food and water security and concerted action is needed to tackle the issue. She also underlined the need to preserve, promote and utilize indigenous knowledge. Addressing the inaugural function of the National Level Art Exhibition in New Delhi,
President Murmu stressed that it has to be ensured that the vanguards of the forest force are not deprived of their rights, rightful place, and recognition in society. She also said that the life values of the tribal
communities should be adopted.
The President highlighted that 70 percent of the total tiger population of the world is found in India and the communities living around Tiger Reserves and National Parks also have an important contribution in this achievement. She said Simlipaal Tiger Reserve located in her district in Odisha also has a good number of tigers. She added that both society and government have to work together to conserve and promote the rich biodiversity and forest wealth available in places like Simlipal.
