Andhra Pradesh Chief
Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed the officials to look into the
feasibility of providing free mobile phones to economically backward people to
enable cashless transactions stressing on the need for digital transactions.
He mooted the
idea
during a meeting with officials, including the RBI and other bankers.
Emphasizing the need for digital transactions in the coming days, Mr. Naidu
said people who don't have mobile phones may be provided with free phones to
move to a cashless economy. Mr Naidu said shortage of currency notes of small
denominations in wake of demonetisation of currency has underlined the need to
go digital for financial transactions.
