Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy met Infosys founder N.R. Narayana Murthy on Friday in the city. They had a detailed discussion on infrastructure and waste management for Bengaluru city.

According to a communiqué from the CM’s office, Mr. Kumaraswamy sought Mr. Murthy’s guidance on forming an expert committee to look into issues of infrastructure and waste management that were plaguing the city. The proposed committee will be headed by the Chief Minister and will meet every two months to review progress of various works and projects, the communiqué added.

Mr. Murthy reportedly told Mr. Kumaraswamy that he was glad to be part of the committee. He said that he would soon submit his suggestions on improving infrastructure and waste management system in the city. He also suggested that the chief minister take non-governmental organisations in the city into into confidence while planning and

implementing the urban development projects.

Referring to the Chief Minister’s visit to Israel to learn more about the successful farming techniques, he said: “I appreciate your concern for the welfare of the society and farmers in particular. You took that initiative when you were not in power.”

This is not the first time that such an expert committee has been constituted. The Bangalore Agenda Task Force was constituted in the late 1990s when S.M. Krishna was the Chief Minister. In the late 2000s, the Kasturirangan Committee was constituted by the then Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to look into improving governance in Bengaluru. Later in 2010, Mr. Yeddyurappa constituted the Agenda for Bengaluru Infrastructure and Development Task Force (ABIDe). In 2014, the then Chief Minister Siddaramaiah constituted the BBMP Restructuring Committee to look into reorganising the administrative zones in the city.
