Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday said wider consultations would be held with various sections of society and all political parties for the creation of new districts.
The Chief Minister said that an all-party meeting would be organised to invite suggestions from them. He gave clarity on the formation of 14 new districts and 74 new mandals at a workshop organised for ministers, MPs, MLAs, district presidents and other important functionaries.
Asserting that creation of new districts for political reasons was meaningless, he asked party men to ignore any criticism on the subject. “There is no meaning to the demands coming with political reasons. The demands of people and their convenience should be considered while taking a decision,” he said.
KCR noted that delimitation of districts was done in all the states in the country except for Andhra Pradesh and West
Bengal. As a result of this, the state was not getting enough funds from Centre. It is essential to have new districts to get Navodaya and Kendriya Vidyalayas. The newly formed state should develop on expected lines and there should be new development centers in the state,” said KCR.
Telangana area is 1.14 lakh square kilometres and average district area is 11,000 kilometres. The average population in districts in the country was 18 lakhs whereas the population in Telangana was 36 lakhs per district. With an aim to having administrative convenience, the government has started delimitation of districts, he informed. Every district would have 20 mandals on an average. The mandals nearer to the district headquarters should be included in the same district.
