Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin has urged the district administrations to ensure the public is following the Covid-19 protocols to prevent the resurgence of the viral infection. He reviewed the precautionary measures against the spread of the pandemic with the district collectors over video-conferencing yesterday. In the meeting, he said the district administrations must be geared up to meet any challenges at any time.
Meanwhile, the state has registered 55 new infections in the past 24-hours, though no loss of life has been reported.
The chief minister’s appeal comes in the wake of the new Covid infections surpassing the figure of fifty
consistently for the past four days. The Madras IIT campus has emerged as a major cluster, which has seen 18 new cases taking the total within the campus this month to 78.
However, Mr Stalin said 91.5 percent of the people in the eligible age groups have received at least one dose of the Covid vaccines, and 74.75 percent have received both doses. He asked to expedite the process of administering the jabs to all those who are eligible saying, it is an effective shield against the pandemic. It may be recalled that the state has made non-wearing of masks in public places an offense, punishable with a fine of 500-rupees.
