The first goods train carrying essential commodities arrived today at the Khongsang Railway Station in Manipur. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh received the goods train. The train was flagged off from Guwahati on Sunday. The train has 12 bogies and each bogy has a capacity of 60 metric tonne. The commodities consist of rice, onion, potato, and others.
The Chief Minister said that it would ease the shortage of essential commodities. He also said that a guest house would be set up
at Khongsang Village near the railway station.
The Chief Minister thanked the Prime Minister and Union Railways Minister for making the transportation of essential commodities through the Northeast Frontier Railways possible.
During his visit to Manipur in May this year, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the transportation of essential goods to the State by train upto Khongsang Railway Station.
