Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi yesterday presented a 2.90 lakh crore rupees state budget for the 2025-26 fiscal with a focus on agriculture and irrigation.
While presenting the budget in the state assembly, Mr Majhi, who also holds the finance portfolio, said his government has allocated 37,838 crore rupees for the farm and allied sector, an increase of nearly 12 per cent compared to last year’s budget. Around 48 per cent of Odisha’s workforce depends on agriculture and 80 percent of
people live in rural areas.
Mr Majhi also said the estimates for the sector include an allocation of 2,020 crore rupees for ‘CM Kisan Yojana’ and 600 crore rupees for the ‘Shree Anna Abhiyan’ for the promotion of millets. This was the first full-fledged budget of the BJP government after the party came to power in Odisha last year. Several new schemes for improvement of irrigation facilities in the state have also been announced in the budget.
