Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy speaking at an event celebrating National Education Day and Minorities Welfare Day in Hyderabad, emphasised the role of minorities in the state’s development and their support in bringing Congress to power.
Reddy reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening education, healthcare, and job opportunities, describing Hindus and Muslims as the “two eyes” of the state.
The Chief Minister criticised the current political climate, contrasting what he called the “Modi Parivar,” which he accused of inciting divisions, with the “Gandhi Parivar,” dedicated to unity. He cautioned minorities against aligning with parties that, he argued, would threaten policies like the four percent minority reservation established by Congress.
He said, “There are currently two parivars (families) in the country, ‘Modi Parivar’ and ‘Gandhi Parivar’. If you decide to support the ‘Modi Parivar’, they will scrap the four percent reservation provided exclusively to minorities by the Congress party. Therefore, you must decide whom you will support.”
The Chief Minister urged the minorities to reflect on their political alliances, reminding them that while some leaders wear traditional garb during festivals for votes, true support must be evaluated by actions taken for the community’s welfare at the state and national levels.
He
said, “During Ramzan, they wear sherwanis and share biryani with you, and out of sentiment, you support them. But think wisely, they take your votes here, but whom do they support in Delhi?”
Reddy noted that although no minority candidates were elected to the Cabinet, the Congress government appointed Shabbir Ali as a government advisor and Aamir Ali Khan as an MLC to ensure community representation. He also appointed a minority officer in the Chief Minister’s Office for the first time since YS Rajashekhara Reddy’s administration. He referenced the First Minister of Education, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s contributions to education, highlighting the legacy of inclusivity Congress aims to uphold.
Encouraging the audience to support the Congress agenda, Reddy called on minorities to back Congress’s efforts to win in Maharashtra and rally behind the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, comprising the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Nationalist Congress Party (SP) of Sharad Pawar. He emphasised the need to replace the Modi government, envisioning Rahul Gandhi as the next Prime Minister.
Reddy also launched the TGMREIS (Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society) website’s online integrated command centre, a step toward enhancing education for minorities. Additionally, he presented the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad awards to honour those working to advance minority education.
