The Madhya Pradesh government on Tuesday announced that night curfew would be imposed in Indore and Bhopal from March 17 after both cities have witnessed a spike in Covid cases in the last few weeks.
CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed the Covid situation in the state and necessary instructions were issued immediately after the meeting.
The Home Department in its instructions said that all commercial activities would be banned in Bhopal and Indore between 10 pm and 6 pm. Patrolling would be intensified to ensure people remain indoors after the specified time.
In Jabalpur and Gwalior, commercial establishments would not be allowed to open from 10 pm
to 6 am. In ten towns, Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Khargone, Ujjain, Ratlam, Chhindwara, Burhanpur and Betul processions on Holi and Rang Panchmi will not be allowed.
Those not wearing masks would be fined and will be put in open jails. Special restrictions have been put in place for those traveling to the state from Maharashtra.
On Monday, a total of 797 positive cases were reported in MP. Of these 259 cases were reported from Indore and 199 cases were reported in Bhopal. A total of 14,605 tests were conducted across the state and 5.4 per cent of those tested were found positive. In Bhopal and Indore, the positivity rate was much higher at 9 per cent.
