Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has confirmed that the caste census report, conducted scientifically, will be implemented by his government. Speaking at a pre-budget meeting in Vidhana Soudha, attended by leaders of backward class organisations, Siddaramaiah reiterated his government's commitment to the caste census, addressing concerns and clarifying any doubts.
"Our government is in favor of the caste census. We have accepted the caste census report, and it will certainly be implemented in the
coming days. There is no need for any doubt about it," he assured.
The Chief Minister also addressed a proposal to increase reservations, echoing the 1992 Indira Sawhney case ruling, which set the cap for reservations at 50 per cent. Siddaramaiah criticised the previous government’s decision to provide reservations to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), stating it went against the constitutional provisions in Articles 15 and 16, which reserve benefits for socially and educationally backward groups.
