The completed draft of the National Register of Citizens, NRC, has been published bearing the names of 2 crore 89 lakh 83 thousand 677 citizens of Assam. A total of 3 crore 29 lakh 91 thousand and 384 persons had applied in the NRC updation process. Names of 40 lakh 7 thousand 707 people did not appear in the NRC draft. 

Addressing a joint press meet in Guwahati today, Registrar General of India Mr Sailesh said,  it was a historic day for the country and Assam. He said,



opportunity will be given to those whose names are not included in the draft today. Joint Secretary of the  Home Ministry Satyen Garg said, no one will be sent to detention camp or Foreginers Tribunal as already declared by the Home Ministry. 

State NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela said, information and reasons for non-inclusion of names in the draft list will be provided. Nearly, 6.56 crores supporting documents were received along with applications.
