Cong flays Modi Govt over waiving off loans of 50 top willful defaulters

New Delhi: Lashing out at the Narendra Modi government, the Congress on Tuesday said helping fugitives and waiving off their loans has become the main agenda of the BJP and demanded an answer from the Prime Minister.

On March 16, Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi asked Modi government in Parliament, names of 50 top bank scamsters in India. The government and Finance Minister kept mum and refused to disclose any names said AICC communication in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala while addressing media persons via video conferencing.

The Congress response came after the news reports that the Reserve Bank of India has admitted to writing off Rs 68,607 crores due to 50 top willful defaulters, including absconding diamantaire Mehul Choksi.

On April  24, 2020, in response to an RTI, the RBI made a sensational disclosure by accepting they had waived off loans worth Rs 68,607 crore from the 50 biggest bank scamsters. The entire country is fighting the pandemic. Millions of workers had to flee, more than 14 crore people lost their jobs, dearness allowance of Rs 37,530 crore of 113 lakh military personnel, military pensioners and government employees was deducted



by Modi government, Mr. Surjewala charged.

He further said that thousands of crores are being collected in the name of corona funds from government-private sector employees, companies.

Small scale industries, shopkeeping, and business have come to a standstill. In spite of this, Modi government is pardoning Rs 68,607 crore to bank defaulters” the Congress leader stated.

Mr. Surjewala also said the first name in the list is that of Mehul Choksi-Nirav Modi, for whose companies Gitanjali Gems, Gili India, Nakshatra Brands, Rs 8,048 crore has been written off.

Mehul Choksi hails from Palanpur, Gujarat. Rs 6,038 crores has been written off for another fugitive jeweler from Palanpur, Jatin Mehta's companies- Winsome Diamonds and Forever Precious Jewellery, he said.

He also alleged that a debt of Rs 1,943 crore has been written off for fugitive Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher Airlines.

Will Modi government come clean on their reasons for being so generous with these 50 bank scamsters?

Mr. Surjewala asked and added; people of this country seeking answers from Prime Minister Modi.
