Bengaluru: The Congress legislator UT Khader has been unanimously elected Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. There was no other contender for the post. Speaking after the declaration of the new Speaker in the House, the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah hoped that the debate and discussion in the House will be of a high standard under the guidance of Speaker UT Khader. He recalled that in 2018, UT Khader was awarded for playing an active role during the legislative session and had

set a record of asking the highest number of questions in the House.

Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai asked the new Speaker to function like a weighing scale giving equal opportunities to the ruling and opposition members in the House. He said that UT Khader is known for his patience and had effectively handled the post of Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the previous dispensation.
