Congress makes cleansweep in civic polls in Punjab

In Punjab, Congress has made a clean sweep while Shiromini Akali Dal and BJP blamed booth capturing and inaction on part of State Election Commission for defeat in the Civic polls. 

The Congress has registered victory in 20 out of 29 Municipal Councils and Municipal Panchayats. The Congress candidates won 267, Akali Dal 37, BJP 15, AAP one and Independents 94 seats from out of total 414 wards. 

Surprisingly in Balachaur, all the 15 seats were won by Independents. The Congress also won all the three Municipal



Corporation polls.The Congress won Amritsar Corporation winning 64 seats whereas Akali Dal and BJP alliance got 13 seats only, while 8 goes to Independents. In Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, Congress won 66 seats, others 2 and Akali-BJP got 12 seats only.

The State Election Commission has announced result of 59 out of 60 seats of Patiala Municipal Corporation and all the seats were won by Congress. The State Election Commission has ordered repoll at booth number three of ward number 37 due to damage to EVM in polls.
