Aizawl: The Congress party will stand to protect and preserve Mizo culture, tradition and language, vows Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while speaking at the election campaign in Aizawl on Monday.
Mr Gandhi arrived in poll-bound Mizoram for a two-day visit. On reaching the State capital, the Congress leader took out the Mizoram-leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Chanmari to Treasury Square in the heart of Aizawl City.
Following the visit of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the wind of campaigning atmosphere has been heated up in the political corridor of Mizoram. The Congress party is pitching hard to regain back the lost ground by promising a new vision for the hill State. On the other hand, the visit of Rahul Gandhi has created a new level of enthusiasm among the party workers to take on the political fight.
Meanwhile, the Youth Front of the ruling Mizo National Front has demanded Rahul Gandhi to tender an apology for allegedly bombing Aizawl by the then Congress Government at the Centre in 1966.
Describing the Mizo people as “Gentle, Kind and Affectionate”, the Congress leader heaped praise on the
Mizo’s ‘tlawmngaihna’ - a spirit of selfless service, which is altruism.
Appealing to the people to vote for the Congress, Mr Gandhi vows to protect and preserve the age-old Mizo culture and tradition. Citing the lack of development and bad condition of roads, coupled with the problem of unemployment and drug menace in the State, the Congress leader said that the Congress party would strive to bring all-round development in Mizoram.
The Congress leader will be addressing the 'Press Conference' today. Later, he is expected to visit Lunglei District Headquarters, which is in the southern part of Mizoram.
With elections just a few weeks away, electioneering is picking up across the State with political parties such as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and others giving all efforts to woo the voters in all parts of the State.
Mizoram will go for Assembly polls on the 7th of November to elect 40 members of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly.
