Congress leader KC Venugopal, while speaking at a press conference on Saturday, said the national party will hold a mega rally ‘Mehangai Par Halla Bol’ on Sunday against inflation in the country. He said the rally will be held in Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan and will be kicked off by party leader Rahul Gandhi.
He further added that the party’s agitation against inflation will not stop with the rally. From September 7 onwards, the Congress will begin the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. Several Congress members, including party MPs, will take part in the yatra, which is scheduled to start from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.
He said the Modi-led government is "not bothered about all these things." He added
the only agenda of the government at the Centre is to buy MLAs.
Venugopal made a public appeal to join the rally on Sunday while adding that the Congress has been consistently fighting against the rise in prices since 2021.
Congress General Secretary Ajay Maken also spoke during the press conference and said the party is taking the fight against inflation from Parliament to the streets. He accused Prime Minister Modi of lowering corporate taxes and raising GST rates so his "capitalist friends" don't have to pay the taxes levied on them.
Congress MP Shaktisinh Gohil said Sunday's rally will remind the government to work for the common citizens and not for its "friends".
