Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that country's Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative contains marine resources as a key pillar.

Addressing the One Ocean Summit virtually yesterday, the Prime Minister said, India has always been a maritime civilization and emphasised that our security and prosperity are linked to oceans.

In his address, Mr Modi said, India is committed to eliminating single-use plastic. He said, the country recently undertook a



nationwide awareness campaign to clean plastics and other wastes from coastal areas. The Prime Minister said, three lakh young people collected around 13 tonnes of plastic wastes.

Mr Modi also informed that Indian Navy has been directed to contribute 100 ship-days this year for cleaning plastic wastes from the seas. He added that India will be happy to join France in launching a global initiative on single-use plastic.
