The Bombay High Court on Friday extended the time for the magisterial inquiry into the custodial death of an accused in the Salman Khan house firing case, stating it could not pressure the magistrate to expedite the report.

The bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and RW Joshi heard a plea filed by Rita Devi, whose son, Anuj Thappan, allegedly died by suicide on May 1 inside a crime branch

office restroom in Mumbai. While police claim that Thappan killed himself, his mother, Rita Devi, filed a plea in the High Court on May 3, alleging foul play and claiming her son was killed.

In her plea, Devi sought the court's directive for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into her son's death, alleging that Thappan was physically assaulted and tortured by police while in custody.
