Vijayawada: Chief secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy on Tuesday instructed officials concerned to take up construction of toilets extensively by interlinking Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme (MGNREGA), popularly known as the Upadhi scheme, with the Swachh Bharat Mission.
“Summer is the right time to take up the Upadhi scheme works in the state,” he stated in a video conference with district collectors.
Jawahar Reddy pointed out that the government has sanctioned more than one lakh individual toilets. All district collectors should thus
concentrate on getting the pits dug and completing construction of the toilets.
He also wanted water conservation works to be prioritised under the Upadhi scheme.
Principal secretary Sashibhushan Kumar said that individual toilet constructions have been taken up at a cost of ?951 crore by interlinking Swachh Bharat and Upadhi.
Special chief secretary K. Vijayanand presented details of the current power supply position in the state, underlining that the power supply is smooth.
