Calicut: A customs superintendent has been arrested by the police at Kozhikode Calicut International Airport after he was allegedly caught red-handed while acting as a conduit for gold smuggling. He allegedly helped a duo in smuggling 320 gm of gold.
The accused officer has been identified as Muniyappa. He was detained while handing over the gold to two people. The officer had promised that the gold will go through without airport screening and checks.
The duo namely Abdul Nazir and Jamsheer who arrived
from Dubai had entrusted the 'job' to Muniyappa. The duo has also been taken into custody by the police. Muniyappa was promised 25,000 for safely delivering the gold outside the airport.
In a similar incident in July this year, a flight attended was arrested at Karippur airport (Calicut International Airport) in Kozhikode for allegedly trying to smuggle in gold worth Rs 1 crore. The man allegedly tried to smuggle gold through the airport green channel after an international flight landed at the Kozhikode airport.
