Cyclonic storm Kyarr likely to intensify over Arabian sea

India Meteorological Department has said that the cyclonic storm Kyarr is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours. The speed of gale wind reaching 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph is prevailing around the system centre over the East-central Arabian Sea. It is very likely to reach 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph today. 

Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy falls at isolated places is likely over coastal districts of Karnataka, Goa and south Konkan and isolated heavy rainfall over north Konkan during next 12 hours.

The wind speed may increase, further becoming 170-180 kmph and touching up to 200 kmph by tomorrow morning around the system centre. It is very likely to become phenomenal around the system centre over the west-central Arabian Sea from October 28 to 31.

Goa government has issued a warning as heavy rains and strong winds triggered by the cyclone Kyarr in the Arabian Sea disrupted normal life in the state. Goa University has cancelled all exams scheduled for yesterday and today. 

An alarm has also been sounded in Udupi, Dakshin and Uttara Kannada districts of Karnataka. These districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall during in the next



24 hours.

Meteorological Department (IMD) today said that the cyclonic storm Kyarr is likely to bring very heavy to extremely heavy rains in coastal districts of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra in the next 12 hours and also cause strong winds. 

The warning was issued yesterday afternoon by the Mumbai centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Met department informed that deep depression in the Arabian Sea intensified into cyclonic storm Kyarr during early hours of Friday. Kyarr is very likely to intensify into a very severe during the next 12 hours. 

IMD has predicted that the cyclonic storm will move towards the coast of Oman after that. An alarm, indicating 'extremely heavy rainfall', has been issued for Sindhudurg district, which would mean precipitation of 204.5 mm rainfall. Squally wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph is likely to prevail along and off Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Raigad districts of Maharashtra as well as Goa. Wind speed of around 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail along with the remaining coastal districts of Maharashtra, north Karnataka coast as well as in the Arabian sea off the Gujarat coast.
