The death toll in the hooch tragedy in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand has risen to 41. In Uttar Pradesh, 27 persons have lost their lives in Kushinagar and Saharanpur districts after consuming spurious liquor yesterday. Death toll is likely to rise as many persons are still admitted in hospitals and their condition is reported to be serious. State government has announced ex-gratia of 2 lakhs rupees to the next of the kin of deceased and 50 thousand rupees to those undergoing treatment in hospitals.
Taking swift action in the case, Uttar Pradesh government has suspended
10 police personnel in Saharanpur while four policemen have been suspended in Kushinagar. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the authorities to launch a 15 day joint operation of Excise and Police department to take action against spurious liquor operatives.
In Uttrakhand, 14 people have died in the hooch tragedy in Bhagwanpur block of Haridwar district. Many people are hospitalized and undergoing treatment. Talking to media, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said, stern action has been taken in the matter.
