The death toll in the Mahad building collapse has increased to 13 with NDRF recovering 12 more bodies from the site yesterday. After more than 35 hours of the building collapse,the NDRF teams, local police and other local rescue teams are working relentlessly, using dog squads and 13 heavy duty excavators to rescue people trapped under the debris.
Their efforts have resulted in survival of two precious lives of 4 year old Mohammad Bangi and 65 year old Mehrunissa Kazi. The efforts of the rescue teams as well as the crane and JCB machine operators are being lauded from all the
sections.
Maharashtra’s Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Wadettiwar has announced an ex-gratia of five lakh rupees each for the families of the deceased. He added that financial assistance of upto fifty thousand will be provided to the injured. Stating that the construction material used was of very poor quality, Mr. Wadettiwar said the guilty will be brought to book.
Earlier in the day, a case was registered against five persons, including the builder Farooq Kazi, RCC consultant Bahubali Dhamne, and architect Gaurav Shah under sections 304, 304A and 338 of the IPC.
