The decision on Congress Working Committee (CWC) elections is likely in the party’s upcoming plenary session slated in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur on February 24.
According to sources, the party’s steering committee would put a final stamp on the polls. Though the final decision is yet to come, the party’s election authority has begun the preparation in case elections are held.
The Congress’s three-day plenary session will start on February 24. If CWC elections are held, it will happen after 25 years.
CWC is the highest decision-making body of the party, which
constitutes 12 elected members and 11 nominated members.
During the polls, around 1,240 AICC members will elect the CWC members.
The last election for the post of Congress President saw around 9,915 member delegates, who cast their vote across the country to elect Mallikarjun Kharge as the Congress President.
The steering committee headed by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has 47 members, including Congress Parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi.
