Owing to the deep depression which is expected to become Cyclone Fengal in the Southwest Bay of Bengal, the Regional Met department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in the coastal and delta districts of Tamilnadu for the next two days. Rains are to continue till the 2nd of December in many parts of the State. 

The deep depression which is 800 kilometres south of Chennai and 500 kilometres away from Nagapattinam is likely to become a cyclone in another 24 hours and move towards the north and northwest direction in the SouthWest Bay of Bengal.  Storm warning signal number 4 has been hoisted at Chennai, Cuddalore and  Nagapattinam ports. In Ennore, Kattupalli, Pamban, Puducherry and Karaikal ports strom signal no 1 has been hoisted.

District Collectors have been issued advisories to implement necessary preventive measures. Six SDRF teams have been prepositioned in Trichy and Dindigul and two NDRF teams in



Chennai and Tirunelveli. Nine additional SDRF and 13 NDRF teams are on standby if needed. Chief Minister MK. Stalin directed senior officials of the Government to monitor the situation and work closely with all the departments to ensure necessary relief efforts. 

A 24-hour control centre at Chennai will actively engage with the District authorities and implement remedial measures immediately. After the advisory issued by the Fisheries Department on the 23rd, 1192 boats which were in deep sea have returned to the shore. Fishermen in the deep sea have been asked to move to nearby by fishing harbours.
