Hours after former Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot, PM Narendra Modi expressed 'deep distress' and wished him a speedy recovery. Shinzo Abe was in critical condition after being shot during a campaign speech on Friday in western Japan.

Japan said. "Deeply distressed by the attack on my dear friend Abe Shinzo. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, his family, and the people of Japan," Modi tweeted.  

Japan's former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was in heart failure after apparently being shot during a campaign speech Friday in western Japan, NHK public television said.
