In yet another push to Nari Shakti, the Government of India is going to organise Republic Day, 2024 parade with only women taking part in all the activities on the Kartavya Path. This will be for the first time that such a decision has been taken by the government.
Speaking to India Today, sources from the defence ministry said that only females would be participating in the march past, tableaux and performances that will take place in the parade.
The Ministry of Defence, in its notice, said, "After detailed deliberations, it has been decided that Republic Day 2024 will have women participation, including contingents (marching and bands), tableaux and performances during the parade at the Kartavya
Path.”
The Defence Ministry has also informed other ministries, including Home Affairs, Culture and Urban Development about its decision.
In recent years, the defence forces and paramilitary contingents have chosen women contingent commanders and deputy commanders in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s drive to promote women's participation in all possible roles in the military as they have been given command opportunities along with deployment in combat roles.
While addressing the 99th edition of PM Modi's monthly radio programme "Mann Ki Baat", the prime minister said that Indian women and their empowerment are playing a big role in pushing India’s growth. He further said that ‘Nari Shakti’ is leading from the front.
