Two persons were killed and a few others were injured when a low-floor DTC bus lost control and rammed a group of public transport vehicles at Azadpur in north Delhi on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
A tyre burst is suspected to have caused the accident, said Milind Dumbere, DCP (North-west). The bus driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the accident spot, he added.
A senior police officer said, "The dead have been identified as 15-year-old Harsh and 45-year-old Devender. The other injured are expected to survive." There was no clarity on the exact number of injured persons.
The accident took
place outside the Azadpur metro station where a few e-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws were parked on the roadside.
According to the initial probe, the bus swerved towards the left, ramming two e-rickshaws and one auto. These three vehicles had a few passengers in them at the time of the accident.
Locals rushed to the spot and rescued those trapped in the mangled vehicles. There were a few passengers in the bus, it is yet to be ascertained how many of them were injured.
With anger brewing among locals and commuters at the accident spot, a police team was deployed to prevent breakdown of law and order.
