Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced free bus travel for the transgender community in Delhi. Chief Minister Kejriwal said in a social media post that a proposal will soon be passed in the state cabinet to implement it. He added that once the cabinet’s decision is notified, the facility will commence at the earliest.
This provision is expected to be implemented within a few weeks by the Delhi government. Mr Kejriwal noted that
the transgender community has historically been marginalized and hoped that this decision would benefit them.
The Delhi government said that transgender individuals can receive the benefit of free bus services based on the government certificate issued by the district magistrate offices in the capital. It added that the decision has been proposed based on the data received from the Social Welfare Department.
